A Big 5 Safari Close to Cape Town
During my holiday in Cape Town I travelled outside the city for a Big 5 safari. At Inverdoorn Game Reserve, where I would be staying and going on safari drives, I was greeted by their warm and friendly team. Almost immediately we were on our way with my very first game drive. My field guide was very knowledgeable and had lots of stories to share. During the drive we, that being me and all my fellow travellers, saw elephants, impala, buffalo, springbok, zebra, lions and lots more . We drove to a dam and spotted two great, big hippos. There were also eland in the vicinity. On the way back the sun started setting and it was one of the most beautiful things I had ever seen on all my travels.
Luxury Accommodation at a Safari Lodge
Dinner that night was set up at the pool and the waiters made sure my glass was always full with very good, South African wine. We had a braai, which is like a barbecue, but so much better. They placed a delicious variety of meat on the braai and I tried all of it and was really impressed. Some of the other travellers joined me for dinner and we spoke about our safari. The accommodation I had booked was a 4-star chalet. It was very pretty inside and also extremely comfortable. I slept extremely well that night.
The next day I went on another safari and saw even more animals. I even got to walk with a tall giraffe, and when I got back to the lodge I did a cheetah interaction. I met a tame cheetah and got to stroke her and give her water. The cheetah handler told me a lot about cheetah conservation and what they are doing at Inverdoorn to help save the cheetah. Conservation is very important to everyone who works at Inverdoorn. A lot of the animals that you will see have been rescued from very bad circumstances. I enjoyed my break from the city and was very privileged to be able to go on a Big 5 safari in Africa.
